ABOUT ME

I’m a writer, teacher, and editor, specializing in memoir, the lyric essay, and all things creative nonfiction.

I’m the author of two memoirs-in-essays, both about family, grief, Christianity, and mental health in Appalachia, and I’m working on a book about motherhood.

I teach creative nonfiction in the undergrad, MFA, and PhD programs in creative writing at Oklahoma State University, and I’m the nonfiction editor of the Cimarron Review.

I also enjoy sailing, riding in my daughter’s pony cart; taking long walks in West Virginia mountains and Oklahoma prairies; very occasionally playing the piano; throwing sticks for my old Boston terrier; petting my cat; swimming in lakes, oceans, and quietish rivers; quilting; spending time with my husband, sisters, and other family; and playing house, shop, Duplos, Barbies, or anything with my two little girls.
